The proper case will mean that you will have a much easier trip. You'll need to make sure that it can hold everything you need, while still being easy enough to manage, so that you can travel easily, lift it into racks, compartments and onto the luggage carousel conveyer belt.

The size of your case will need to make it convenient, easy, and it must fit into restrictions of your travel choice. For example, if you're flying, your carry-on MUST fit into the overhead compartment, or underneath the seat ahead of you.

 

The maximum weight you'll be allowed for your carry on case will be 40lbs (18kg). For that reason, you'll want to get case that is as light as possible - remembering that soft sided case is considerably lighter than hard sided.
