Luggage tags are your key to your luggage identification. They may sound as simple as a piece of masking tape, but there is actually an art to luggage tags, making sure that your luggage is always safe and sound.

First, your luggage tags must have adequate space for your name and contact information, and this information has to be legible to not only you, but anyone else who may happen to come across your luggage in the wrong place. Remember to write as big and clearly as possible, preferably in type, or block letters, so that you can read it quickly as it goes by on the luggage return carousel, and so that others will quickly recognize that it's not theirs.

You may want your luggage tag to be a bright color or pattern, so that you can see it at a distance, and you will more easily be able to recognize your particular piece of travel equipment. These days, so there are so many black, brown and navy pieces, in both leather and nylon, with wheels and a handle, that everyone on the plane may as well have precisely the same piece. However, if yours is the one with the fluorescent green or orange luggage tags, you'll be able to recognize it right away, and it won't get confused with someone else's.
